Have you heard the term VPN before and had no clue what it stood for? Well, we are here to answer that.

So what is it?

A VPN is a Virtual Private Network, it is a service that protects your internet connection and privacy online. Providing a safer internet network.

It is a fantastic enhancement for creating additional security online and a great deterrent for cybercriminals. Antivirus software like Bitdefender comes with an optional VPN bundle, but if you’re looking for a standalone, NordVPN is a good choice.

But what does a VPN do? It creates a tunnelled / encrypted connection to the network and hides your IP address and makes it difficult for cybercriminals to pinpoint your computer or device and in turn makes it hard for them to launch attacks against you, for the simple fact that they need to know your real IP address and a VPN gives you a hidden one/fake address to cloak you from them.

Government agencies, marketers, and internet service providers would all love to track and collect your browsing history, messages, and other private data. The good news is once a VPN is used they cannot do this.

The added bonus of having a VPN apart from being a good cyber-criminal deterrent is that you can choose your region for example many VPN users would select the USA to watch Netflix as some of the latest Movies and TV shows are only available in these regions and VPNs can provide the best bang for your buck if you’re a Netflix subscriber. Or if you want to watch Love Island on ITV player!

Don’t be an easy target. Make it difficult for cybercriminals. Stay safe online and off.
