What is a Deepfake? That’s when someone uses computer tricks to create a video or image that looks or sounds like something it’s not.

What Is Deepfake?

In recent years, deepfake technology has increased, causing concern and curiosity among the general public. Deepfake refers to using artificial intelligence (AI) to create manipulated or synthetic media, such as videos or images, designed to appear authentic. This technology can affect our lives in several ways, both positively and negatively.

On the one hand, deepfake technology can be used for legitimate purposes, such as in the film and entertainment industry. For example, with the help of AI, filmmakers can create realistic and seamless special effects, reducing the need for expensive and time-consuming practical products. Moreover, deepfake can use this technology to create avatars to help people with disabilities interact with the world, providing them with greater access and opportunities.

However, the darker side of deepfake technology is its potential to cause harm. The most immediate danger is using Deepfakes to create fake news, propaganda, or disinformation. For example, Deepfakes could be used to create a video of a political figure saying or doing something they never did to influence public opinion. Deepfake content can have far-reaching consequences, including the manipulation of elections, the spread of false information, and the incitement of violence.

In addition, Deepfakes can be used in cybercrime, including identity theft and fraud. For example, criminals can create fake videos or images of people to gain access to their accounts, steal money, or commit other crimes.

As the technology behind Deepfake advances, we should educate ourselves on AI technology. This can include developing better detection and authentication tools, raising public awareness and their potential dangers and strengthening laws and regulations to deter the malicious use of this technology.

But fret ye not, Rural WiFi is here to give you some tips on how to spot these sneaky Deepfakes.

Firstly, take a good look at the video or photo. Does it seem a bit off, like something’s not quite right? For example, the lighting or shadows may not match up, or the person’s movements seem robotic. Trust yer gut, if it don’t look real, it probably ain’t.

Next, listen closely to the audio. Does it sound natural or have strange pauses or fluctuations in tone, and does the voice match the person in the case of Tom Cruise? Deepfakes often struggle to get the audio right, so if it sounds off, that’s a big red flag.

And lastly, consider the context. Is this video or audio clip from a reputable source or does it come from some dodgy website or social media account? Use yer common sense and don’t believe everything ye see or hear on the internet.

Keep yer eyes and ears peeled, and don’t be fooled by them, Deepfakes. And remember, if in doubt, ask a trustworthy expert to help ye out.

Very easy company to deal with, we live in an area with no service and I tried a lot of different companies and no one could get WiFi to our area. I got my WiFi this week and it’s working perfectly, we are delighted with it.
